Just A Few Examples

Here are a few movie posters that were not banned or protested, take a look and tell me if you think banning the 50 Cent poster is not racially motivated. It looks to me that there is something else going on besides guns in the pictures.

Don't get me wrong Monique, I dig those movies (except Terminator 3 that was a wasted piece of garbage). As a advocate of what is right I admit I may be reading into what is not really there but I just think there are too many coincidences. Also as an advocate of free speech, I hate to see when its taken out of context just to hide another agenda.

As an aside Monique, I totally dig that you read this, your comments are insightful.. :-)

Yes, the world is a complicated place and I struggle all the time with my OWN contradictions, but that's life and at least I ask the questions and seek answers right? And same to you! I think it's great to have this dialogue about issues like race, media, influence etc. I suppose it's because I'm biracial so I've had to deal with it all my life. Anyway, I'm so glad that you write your blog, because I enjoy reading it too!

Since I now know that you have the ability to form and opinion and the brains to back it up, you have to see this website I posted on my blog - it's crazy. It's called PostSecret...check it out and tell me what you think (I sound like a blog spammer, sorry!)

Sorry to butt in on you guys' conversation. But I went to Batgirl's blog. She'd never be allowed in my Batcave. I almost got a headache in the few minutes I did spend reading.

Ok.. I would tend to agree with the pulling of that billboard.

You ask what the difference is between the billboards you showed above, and the 50 Cent one... The difference I see, is this.

Rambo is about a vet getting picked on... which escalates.. I've not watched all of them as they're not my kind of movie.

Terminator is completely fictional. And it's not like he was robbing people or selling drugs to make money (this is the street life they speak of, no?) He was out to kill one guy.

In my opinion, you're comparing apples to oranges.

I'm absolutely not a racist. And I would say the same if it were a white guy up there with the same title and theme.

What about The Godfather? Some say it's one of the best films in our history. How different is it from the 50 cent movie? Now, I just saw The Godfather on network television and this movie has people screaming already. I'd like to know the difference besides the Corleones being white and 50 cent being black...

Hi, Capt, I am here by way of Monique's blog. I am not sure what I think of this situation, and I AM a dyed-in-the-wool, ACLU-card-carrying liberal. I think personal civil rights supersede nearly all others.... thus you think I'd be waving my flag in agreement with your distaste for the practical censorship occurring here, but the reality is, something about that billboard makes me feel very, very uneasy. I'm glad to know it is not being propagated (although I'm sure all of this screeching will do wonders for this film at the box office, so I wouldn't be surprised to know this is all a clever marketing ploy).

The image seems like such a glorification of violence and the gangster/urban warfare lifestyle. Maybe it is just too realistic, whereas Rambo and the Terminator were more cartoonish, as another poster says. I am not really sure.

And this is nothing personal, but I also get irritated that everyone automatically jumps on the race card when a person of color is involved. Racism exists, yes, but assuming that race is the factor or a factor at all is such a simple answer to the complexity that is human dynamics.

Thanks for reading, sorry so long... Marie
