Happy Halloween

One night a bunch of friends of mine and I decided to go thrill seeking for the evening and try and see how scared we get. We packed a few weapons for protection (you can never be too sure) and we headed out to a local abandoned psych ward where many moons ago a whole bunch of atrocities took place. When we entered the facility we realized immediately that we got what we were looking for. The place consisted of about 10 buildings, some of which were connected to a smaller secondary building that was accessible only by crossing the rooftop of the main building, and the entire area was overrun by woods and newly formed streams created by years of erosion and the entire place looked like someting out of the Blair Witch Project. We proceeded deep into the woods and decided to turn off our flashlights and keep quiet to avoid being seen by any undesirables that might be vacating those very same woods... it was a tough decision to make because the trees were blocking mostly all of the moonlight but in the end we had to kill the lights because darkness couldn't hurt us and the kinda people that were rumored to frequent that place could. Anyway after we came up on our first building we heard a loud crashing noise and now we were faced with a dilemma, do we call it a night or do we forge ahead and find those thrills that we were so desperate to seek? We got our weapons at the ready and went on.... kicked down the door to the building and immediately surveyed the area but there was nothing, then we heard the noise again this time it was louder so in a haste we scurried up to the second floor and again... nothing so we then checked the roof, crossed it and approached the entrance to the second building when I looked behind and saw something move across the rooftop doorway that we had just exited. I told my friends what I had saw but they did not believe me.... said I was letting my jitters get the best of me and that we should keep moving on. We entered the second half of the building but there was not much to see, it was just a stairway and at the bottom was a huge steel door in front of which was an old wheelchair and bloodstained gurney. I opened my flashlight and pointed it at the door and saw the words HELL LIES BEYOND THIS DOOR written in "red" on it. All of a sudden we heard the noise again and we realized that we were trapped at the bottom of a stairway with no way out so without hesitation we bolted up the stairs skipping three at a time and once again we heard it..... BANG... we ran faster and finally we reached the rooftop but we needed to stop for air, we barely caught our breath when we all turned back to see where we just had exited and we heard what was an unmistakable laughter then all of sudden we saw two large people dressed in black cloaks appear from that very same staircase one said something in Latin and raised a very shiny object high in the air. Weapons or not, now was not the time to take a stand and with every last drop of energy that we had we ran.... with hearts pounding and fear taking every last sense of reason from all of us we flew across the rooftop down the stairs and kept running. Without realizing what we were doing we ran deeper into the woods. We must have ran for about a mile when we came across a second building that was surrounded by a realtively shallow stream and we decided as a group to cross this stream and take refuge in that building. Now frightened and soaked we entered the building, made sure it was completely empty and then we just waited. I don't know how long it was but after a while I heard voices outside, I turned to do a headcount... we were all there.... it had to have been them out there looking for us but none of us moved a muscle to check... the voices seemed to be just passing by. Still not willing to take chances we waited to even speak and over a quickly whispered discussion decided that since it was only two hours until daylight we were going to wait this out. Over the course of the two hours we heard voices three more times and each time they sounded different (God only knows how many of them were out there). Daylight finally came and we grabbed our weapons and got ready to go... trugged along through the murky water and when we hit the other end we ran like hell abandoning a sense of stealth, we just wanted to get the heck out of there and did not care how quiet we were. Anyway we reached the end of the woods and finally.... the exit.
Over the years we would sit and tell stories of bravado and how cool it was but the thing is... it was DAMN scary and I won't really forget the autumn evening I got to spend with the lovely local Satanists.
