"Gimmie Gimmie" Some
One of my most favorite bands in the world (I'm sorry... COVER bands) is the punk group Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies. About 7 years ago I was turned on to these guys and I have been a huge fan ever since. As a matter of fact when I was a manager the record store in my local mall I played these guys every day and had gotten at least one person a day to buy their cds.
Basically they are a punk super-group that features members from the Foo Fighters, NOFX, and Lagwagon. All they do are cover songs... punk style, believe me its great. I find the fact that these guys can literally take any type of song and rock it punk style is hilarious. I have always had a wierd obsession with cover sings and these guys definately fit that bill.
The reason why I posted this was because I recently played these guys for 2 people I work with and they both liked these guys so much that they went out and bought the entire Gimmies catalogue! Besides I wanted to test out posting audio here anyway.
Anyhooo I am putting up the audio for their cover of R Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" give the "punk" about a minute to kick in.

I think their music is fantastic! I love cover bands. If you hadn't been the one to tell us about it, and let us copy all the songs, I would be missing out on a good thing right now. You're the man!
the Gimme's ROCK! one of my favorites is Leavin On A Jet Plane. That was on Honest Don's Welcome Wagon compilation CD. Another good cover band, doesn't sound anything like the Gimme's, is Rockapella. They do ALL of their songs A Capella. You should check em out.

And they did a punk version of Rainbow Connection?!? Can life get any better? I think not.
to be honest, i was very skeptical going in to this listening experience...i'm a music teacher....and really critical of cover bands....and i don't listen to much punk, for whatever reason.
first it sounds a bit hawaiian, but......it's okay. actually, i like it, i like this song much better in punk style than the usual whining of the original recording. see, ya taught the music teacher something today.
