My 5 Favorite Gaming Moments (Inspired By Team Binky)
Recently the awesome Team Binky posted his 5 favorite moments in gaming history and it got me thinking about my 5 favorite moments. I know my thoughts get scattered from time to time and since I have been into gaming for the better part if my 30 yrs of existence there is a massive amount of games that have crossed my path so if I forget some great games I apologize... its just hard to keep track of all games I had ever played and then narrow down 5 moments from them. No more talk... here it goes:
5. The first time I played Resident Evil 1. In the beginning of the game when you encounter the first zombie and it cuts to a black screen and you see the zombie pick his head up from eating the dead body on the floor and slowly turns his head to look at you.
This was so creepy and cool and quite frankly was the beginning of a long standing affection that I have had for the RE series.
4. After I beat the old NES Metroid for the second straight time the main character Samus takes her helmet off revealing the fact that she is a woman.
This was a cool move by Nintendo because back in 86' the game industry was seen as only "for the boys" and the fact that they totally hid the fact we were ALL playing a game with a female lead was a cool way to stick it to the "guys".
3. The battle with "The End" in Metal Gear Solid 3.
This was one of the best boss battles ever! "The End" is a master sniper and camo expert and this in jungle fight took me over 2 hours (WITHOUT DYING). Patience is key and it becomes a battle of endurace. It takes gaming to a new level.
2. The "Psycho-Mantis" battle in Metal Gear Solid 1.
This is one of the most creative things that I have ever seen in a game. To fight this telekenetic mind reader you had to literally unplug your controller from port 1 and plug it into port 2 so he "does not read your mind" and you are able to hit him. It blew my mind when I figured out thats what I had to do to beat him.
1. I am a sentimentalist so I will say.... the very first time I played a game. The Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man, I was 5 years old.. it was 1980 and since then I have never stopped gaming. I did not realize it at the time but that game (as lame as it was- the arcade version was WAY better) had made a permanent change in me and my affection for gaming has not faded since.
Other notable moments include the death of the character Nei in Phantasy Star 2. She was hands down the best fighter in your party and when you battle her sister, Neifirst, Nei has no choice and must face her untimely death in the battle. I remember losing her in the game and really feeling bummed out about it for days in real life.
Also the entire game of Tomb Raider 2 was a great moment in gaming for me. I could not pick out any particulars about the game because it was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. I remember some puzzles being so tough that I must have broken about a dozen playstation controllers before I ended up finishing that game but it was well worth it because it will always in my mind be one of the best games ever made.

i still like super mario....i know.....
Crash, who are you kidding? You used the strategy guide all the way through Tomb Raider 2! You didn't figure out any of those puzzles for yourself! ;)
I probably can't think of 5 gaming moments. I'm cursed with a bad memory and short attention span but here goes...
1. The first time I saw the orange Sony logo pop up and it made that little jingle on the PS1, I remember thinking, "Wow. This is something. This is different." I never forgot it.
2. Resident Evil - Not only did the first Zombie cutscene affect me but I remember playing the game alone, at night and getting really scared.
3. I think it was All-Stars Basball for Sega Genesis or maybe NES but they had a team of all girls. That was such a rarity for the time. I loved kicking butt with the girl's team.
4. Kicking ass at Pole Position in the arcade at a brithday party when I was maybe 10. That was MY game. It was such a thrill to hear the boys say, "Wow. She's good."
5. Tomb Raider 2 - This was my return from a long hiatus from gaming and believe me, I wasn't much better than Crash at relying on the strategy guide. However, Lara Croft was the first female character that I knew of in a game that was strong, independent and was rescuing others rather than being rescued. It really meant something to me and it pretty much secured my status as an adult gamer.
Maybe this isn't what you were looking for Crash but these were my moments...
Bonus: The water in Tomb Raider Legends for the 360 looks AMAZING!
easy choice...after numerous challenges and lotsa trash talkin'(that they could never backup) yours truly and the bro in law put a serious ass kickin' on crash and his partner in a little PS1 hockey (think it was 989). if there ever was a mercy rule for video hockey....this matchup called for it.
distant 2nd - got 110,860 points in ms. pacman...oh...good times....good times.
Awesome! My first love of video games... Bubble Bobble for the NES. I now have to put this on my blog.. and link yours to mine.
Very well done.
